Bradford Grammar School

The Shears Foundation has sponsored bursaries and assisted places at Bradford Grammar School (BGS) for more than 20 years. This has enabled a number of children from lower and middle income backgrounds to attend one of the North’s leading independent day schools, providing unparalleled opportunities for social mobility in the region.

Bradford Grammar School’s facilities and ambitious extra-curricular programmes have enabled those children to enjoy a variety of sporting, musical and art facilities that they may not have otherwise experienced. Many of the Shears scholars, who are musically and artistically talented, have excelled in this environment and have gone on to pursue their ambitions as well as receive a first class education.

BGS is a centre of academic, creative, and sporting excellence in the region; it has been voted northern independent school of the year by the Sunday Times and in 2020, the school’s outstanding pastoral provision saw BGS win the Wellbeing Initiative of the Year Award at the Times Education Supplement Independent School Awards).

BGS’s reputation is built on economic and social diversity and the Shears Foundation is proud to have helped nurture the careers and talents of so many less advantaged children.
